Okay, this one is personal. I have a daughter with Down syndrome, whom I love dearly.
Ten fingers and ten toes!
Pretty face? And cutest nose?
No one said why she looked funny
Until they diagnosed ‘trisomy’
Three chromosomes instead of two
Of pair twenty-one: that’s a boo!
Her wide-set eyes and low-set ears,
Protruding tongue, elicit stares.
But despite her imperfection
I’ll be the first to mention
That my beautiful girl, Renee,
Fills my heart with joy each day.
